FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Kayrock and Wolfy One Sixpack Short of a Hippie Death
Cult
Jessica Murray Projects is pleased to announce One Sixpack
Short of a Hippie Death Cult,,an exhibition of posters and prints
by Kayrock and Wolfy. The exhibition will open Friday, July
8, 2005 with a reception from 6 8 pm, and will run through
August 5. Summer gallery hours are Monday - Friday, 11 am 6
pm.
This exhibition is a celebration of the history of Kayrock Screenprinting.
This modest silkscreen and design studio has forged working relationships
with most of the famous or infamous artists, musicians, and sybarites
in Williamsburg and Manhattan of the last five years. Their work has
been exhibited in Munich, Washington DC, Los Angeles, Chicago, Cleveland,
and New York. They have also done work for Deitch Projects, Pierogi,
Wayne Gonzales, Cory Archangel, Fred Tomaselli, Amy Sillman, Andrew
W.K., Cecily Brown, Alexis Rockman, and Downtown for Democracy. An
edition of 13 prints, of some of our favorite posters from their archives,
will be created for the exhibition. Some of the gems of the edition
include the Yeah Yeah Yeahs first tour poster, Maxi Geil and Playcolt
(Guy Richard Smit), the 2003 Social Registry CMJ showcase poster,
and several other posters which step on the toes of such art luminaries
as Josef Albers, Chuck Close, Arthur Arbit, and that guy that drew
a snowman in a snowstorm.
Concurrently, Jessica Murray Projects will host a couple of bands
each Wednesday, starting July 6th, and two outside musical events,
one at the Knitting Factory, and the other at the Frying Pan. Kayrock
and Wolfy will create a new poster for each show. Some of the featured
bands include: Tiger Mountain, Jah Division, People of the North (Oneida),
Ex Models, Nada Surf, The Roger Sisters, Still Life Decay, Ascension
of the Watchers, Young People, the Hold Steady, Turducken (Michael
Mahalchick), Blood on the Wall and The ViBeSongwriters. Mighty Robot
AV Squad will do visuals at the shows. One of the above bands has
been confirmed for a secret show, to be held at Jessica Murray Projects.
